Crested gecko care guide

An extra plant on the ground would help fill the space and you might want to try a feeding ledge.

suggest way more vines and branches. It may cost a bit- but that’s something you committed to when you got one. I have a 20 gallon for mine and he’ll be upgraded to a 40 gallon when he’s fully grown.

live in a 12″ x 12″ x 18″ enclosure for its entire life. However, if you want to have more than one, Exo Terras 18″ x 18″ x 24″ is the minimum size. An adult crested gecko should be housed in a 20-gallon tank with a screen top.

Is a 12x12x18 good for a crested gecko?

A 20gal tank (12 x 12 x 18 tank is best recommended for a single crested gecko. However, if you want to cohabitate with a pair of crested geckos, we recommend an Exo Terras 18″ x 18″ x 24″.

With lots of contradicting crested gecko care guides here on the internet, Grouping a single male and two females or all females usually will work perfectly when cohabitating your crested geckos.

If you have more than one adult male, they will usually fight to dominate. Keep them in different enclosures.

Crested gecko tank size?

A terrarium measuring no less than 12x12x18” is generally recommended for crested geckos between 12 weeks of age to full-grown adults.

For hatchlings, a tank ranging from roughly 2-5 gallons and breeding adult crested geckos a vertically oriented tank no less than 20 gallons is required.

Can crested geckos live in a 40-gallon tank?

A tank can never be too big for a crested gecko. Bigger tanks are still small compared to their natural habitat. Big tanks (40-gallon or larger) provide many benefits such as increased volume and height.

However, juvenile crested geckos should be housed in standard-sized tanks.

Get some leaves that hang for the right side of your tank, they can be fake ones also when you spray your cage, I usually spray my gecko if I see him just so he gets some water. Spraying the cage should be enough water for them.

Do crested geckos need a light at night?

I suggest a mini CHE. They tend to offer just enough warmth to ale for gradient temps between the top and bottom of the vivarium.

You will need to invest in a digital thermometer/hygrometer so you can accurately monitor temps and humidity, both are very important to Cresties!

If you need heat, you will need a CHE (Ceramic Heat Emitter). It is a heat bulb that screws into a ceramic dome (pet stores have them) but doesn’t produce light.

They don’t need it. For juveniles, you should leave their Pangea or Rapahsy in their enclosure changing out every other day for fresh.

Your temps can fluctuate between 68-78 but no higher than 80 for very long. You can add more vines so they feel less exposed. we highly recommend the Arcadia shadow dweller heating and lighting.

You can find videos explaining the way it works to your pets’ benefit. It’s a little more but the bulbs are guaranteed for 12 months where everything else is only six months or so.

How cold is too cold for a crested gecko?

your room may be very cold at night and the tanks have gotten as cold as 60% or below.

For the safety of your pet, you must have a thermostat to control the temperatures. Personally, we use a gradient from the bottom to the top of 76 to 80 degrees.

Our geckos definitely prefer being warmer than that so I use a ceramic heat lamp as well as a temperature controller. You can get a cheap temp controller off of amazon for $20 and they work great.

A ceramic Heat Emitter’s (CHE) is a viable option for overnight heat with no light. Light tends to stress them at nighttime. Being nocturnal, the darker the better.
